Hand excavation · Toronto & GTA

Tight-access hand digging where an excavator cannot fit.

Ground Guard Solutions specializes in controlled hand excavation for waterproofing, foundation and drainage access in narrow side yards, difficult landscaping and close-to-structure areas where larger equipment is not practical.

Why hand excavation

Some sites need control and access more than they need a bigger machine.

Tight side yards, fences, decks, walkways, landscaping and nearby structures can make ordinary excavator access impractical. Hand digging creates another way to reach suitable work areas without positioning Ground Guard as a large-scale earthwork contractor.

Narrow Side Yards example

Narrow Side Yards

Work through spaces where machine width, turning room or property boundaries restrict normal excavator access.

Close-to-Structure Access example

Close-to-Structure Access

Controlled digging beside foundations, walkways, fences and other structures where a smaller working footprint is useful.

Difficult Landscaping example

Difficult Landscaping

Access suitable work areas around established planting, hardscape and other obstacles that make machine entry impractical.

Focused Project Scope example

Focused Project Scope

Ground Guard concentrates on reachable waterproofing, drainage, foundation and related property-service work—not major earthwork or heavy civil excavation.

Waterproofing access

Reach the foundation even when the side yard is too tight for ordinary machinery.

Exterior waterproofing can require foundation access below grade. Where fences, decks, narrow side yards or landscaping block machine entry, controlled hand excavation can provide access for suitable waterproofing and foundation scopes.

Machine excavation

Use machinery when it actually makes the work safer and more efficient.

For larger waterproofing scopes or open-access areas, machinery may be used when appropriate. Ground Guard does not market itself for large site preparation, major earthwork, large utility trenching, rock excavation or a heavy-equipment fleet.

Our process

Plan access first, then dig only what the work requires.

Drainage access

Hand-dug trenches for drainage routes through difficult spaces.

Drainage lines may need to pass through narrow property lines, planting areas, beside walkways or around other obstacles. Hand trenching can provide a focused path for suitable drainage work without bringing oversized equipment into the space.

Questions people ask

Hand-excavation questions

What counts as difficult-access excavation?

Examples include narrow side yards, fenced properties, close-to-structure digging, difficult landscaping and drainage or foundation work where ordinary excavator access is limited.

Can you hand dig for basement waterproofing?

Yes, for suitable work. Hand excavation can expose foundation areas where narrow access, fences, decks, landscaping or nearby structures make normal machine access impractical.

Can you hand dig drainage trenches?

Yes. Suitable drainage trenches can be excavated by hand where property access or nearby obstacles make machinery difficult to use.

Do you offer large-scale excavation?

No. Ground Guard is positioned around waterproofing-related access, precision hand excavation and other reachable project scopes—not major earthwork, large utility trenching or heavy civil excavation.

Do you ever use machines?

Yes. Machinery may be used for larger waterproofing scopes or open-access areas when it makes the work safer and more efficient.

Do you take subcontracting hand-digging work?

Suitable subcontracting scopes can be considered for focused hand digging, access, cleanup and related labour depending on the work area, location and project scope.

Can I request a free evaluation for difficult-access digging?

Yes. Tell Ground Guard what needs to be accessed, where the property is located, what makes the area difficult to reach and the approximate work area, then request a free evaluation.
